Festival of the Broom

Since 1948, the "Festival of the Broom", the celebration of the broom, the emblematic shrub of the Oesling region, has been one of the most renowned folklore events in the whole region and even in the country.

On Whit Monday, during the season when the Oesling hills are in their golden dress, a flower parade, with floats decorated with the broom flower, Luxembourg and foreign music societies, majorette battalions, folklore groups from Luxembourg and abroad, as well as international performance groups, march through the streets of Wiltz.

After two years in which popular events were kept to a minimum, the spring of 2022 will see the return of the famous "Geenzefest", albeit in a slightly restricted form due to time constraints. But that doesn't take away the magic.

The new features on the programme will delight spectators from the youngest to the oldest. This colourful parade with a festive air will have an additional and unique attraction: the "Geenze Festival". A closed area where participants can observe the creativity of the float builders, their manufacturing secrets and the smallest of details, all in a festive and lively atmosphere. This new feature will add an extra dimension to the already spectacular parade and will allow participants to experience the event at its heart: flea markets, handicrafts and encounters with a host of anecdotes will be on offer. A chance to experience an extraordinary event up close.

The Festival of Broom would not be complete without the election of Miss Broom and her runner-ups, these young ladies with their sparkling dresses and broom flower hairstyles represent the entire region for a year and, like ambassadors, will carry the colours of Wiltz loud and clear at neighbouring events. A very special honour.

Come and experience or discover this unique event which emanates a sincere and sparkling joie de vivre. The yellow of the broom blends perfectly with the slate of the Ardennes and announces the return of the good weather in a resplendent manner. See you on Whit Monday.
