Trounwiessel in Wiltz

The Trounwiessel is a nationwide celebration in Luxembourg marking the accession to the throne of the Grand Duke. The Luxembourgish word "Trounwiessel" literally means “change of throne” and refers to the symbolic transition of royal power. In 2025, various towns and cities across the country are taking part in this event – including Wiltz, located in the north of Luxembourg.
On October 4, 2025, Wiltz will host a day full of public festivities. The celebration takes place mainly along the Grand-Rue and around the Wiltz Castle. It begins at noon with a large street party called “Wëllkomm zu Wooltz” ("Welcome to Wiltz"), which includes the longest dining table in the country, measuring about 150 meters. The table will be decorated with a specially woven tablecloth and hand-painted plates created by local children.
Giant screens will allow visitors to watch a live broadcast of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess's visit. The official arrival of the Grand Ducal couple is scheduled for 2:20 p.m. at the amphitheatre near the castle. Afterwards, there will be cultural performances, live music, theatre, and family-friendly activities that highlight the artistic and cultural diversity of the region.
The highlight of the day will be a free open-air concert featuring national and international artists, including Selah Sue and Claire Parsons, followed by DJ sets later in the evening.
The Trounwiessel in Wiltz is more than just a royal celebration — it’s a moment of togetherness, community spirit, and cultural pride, reflecting the inclusive and diverse society of modern Luxembourg.
